Why this must be read:This fic is part of the Kindreds Five Times Project, in which different writers fic on a theme. Technophobicgeek hasn't written anything new in a long time, due to hand injuries, but his feel for the minor characters, and the understanding of Sharon as a thing, and as a person, are so elegant and insightful.
Cylon. Lampkin thought as the raptor launched into space, thanking the Gods that his glasses hid the double-take his eyes made. The one Cylon officer in the fleet had been assigned as his pilot. He wondered whose decision it was and why. Lampkin was not fazed by the hatred directed at him by, well, almost everyone in the fleet. He'd lived through years of it on Caprica. Perhaps they thought, they hoped that this Cylon would finish him off for them. Lampkin nearly laughed aloud at the idea. The Cylon was the only soldier he'd met so far who showed no animosity towards him. She didn't care who he was or who he was working for. She'd do her job and do it well, which meant that he was safer with her than any other pilot in the fleet. More likely, he realized, that her life was as expendable as his was. He could come up with a few jokes about the situation, he thought. 'A toaster and a lawyer walked into a bar...'
