The End Is Where We Start From by PFL (PG)
Fandom: PROS (THE PROFESSIONALS)
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 101k

Why this must be read: Because PFL is the backbone and heart of Pros. And if you are in Pros you can't not love her, it's a simple as that. In zines, online, in challenges, as a beta, an editor, a writer, she has an unparalleled talent for storytelling, for knowing what a story needs and when, and for simply nailing the way these lads are. 'The End Is Where We Start From' is seasonally appropriate, so I thought it might be an apt choice here.
After being hurt on an op, Doyle goes to his family to recover, and he discovers that Bodie has offered his resignation to Cowley. You need no more than that, because this has so much to discover: the complexities of an interesting case to tease out, hurt/comfort, angst, Doyle’s interactions with his family ( I’m always a sucker for that), humour, warmth, and our Bodie being... well, Bodie really.*g*
The excerpt takes place after Doyle has accidentally clouted Bodie in the face with his plaster cast, and it’s a great example of how this talented writer can have them say ‘I love you’ and hit every button except the mush one.

"C'mon, let's get you over to the bench and the street lamp." He tugged Bodie up and guided him to the bench. Gingerly, he pushed Bodie's hand away from his nose and took a look. "It's not bleeding."
"It's broken."
"Nah, just bruised, I think. Clumsy oaf." Doyle sat on the bench next to Bodie.
"Me!"
"You. Here, lean forward in case it does start bleeding." Obediently, Bodie leant forward slightly, his hand again closing around Doyle's thigh, holding him in place.
Doyle eyed him, then sighed. "Perhaps if you started from the beginning."
Bodie closed his eyes. "When's that?"
"You've got me, sunshine." Doyle took a breath in. "'Do it properly' you said. Are you trying to tell me that you love me?"
Bodie nodded, his hand tightening around Doyle's thigh.
"It might help me believe it if you could actually say it."
"I love you." As a declaration it left much to be desired, given that Bodie was glaring at him when he said it. Then Bodie swore and leant further forward, his free hand going to his nose.
Doyle felt around in his pockets, then in Bodie's pockets, and found a handkerchief. He pressed it into Bodie's hand, receiving a mumbled thanks. "Right, so we've established that you love me. And you resigned. I hope the two aren't connected, but knowing you, they probably are. Terrific. So, um, how long have you loved me?"
Another glare and a mumble.
"What?"
"I said, 'for as long as I've bloody well known you'," Bodie snarled at him.
Doyle digested that. "You pushed me into a canal the second week we were partners."
"I didn't say I didn't find you an annoying little git."

Oooh another fabulous rec. *g* I read this one recently as part of my wallowing in Christmas thing and it was brilliant because she managed to write such an emotional connection between the lads without turning either one of them into an EMO kid.
My needs are simple... or I thought they were. *g* I want canon lads... with the addition of a romantic/physical relationship. PFL always delivers.

I've already read that one too! *g* I've been reading along with the Hatstander advent calendar, printing off the longer ones and making notes to make comments to the writers when I've finished reading them... *may be a little compulsive*
