Two Dishes, But to One Table (Hungry Ghost Overdub) by Rana Eros (PG-13)
Fandom: YAMI NO MATSUEI
Pairing: none
Length: 1732 words
Author on LJ:
ranalore*
* author prefers her IJ journal
Author Website: love is an ocean
Why this must be read:
There are many, many stories in the YnM about Tsubaki-hime, Hisoka, and the bitter, twist-of-the-knife ending to the King of Swords arc. This is the best one I know.
Complex, ambiguous, very adult, and beautiful in its rhythms and imagery, it's a story to read more than once. All YnM stories are ghost stories to some extent, but this one is more so than most. And as such, it makes for a lovely demonstration of why ghost stories and horror stories have been, from time immemorial, the stuff of lasting art.*
Two Dishes, But to One Table (Hungry Ghost Overdub)
*I'm listed as a beta on this story, but my activities as beta reader were limited to reading it, falling over with an audible thud, and informing Rana that she should not change a single word. So while I'd normally avoid reccing a story I'd been involved with, in this case there wasn't the sort of involvement with the text that would affect my objectivity as a reader./Mandatory Disclosure.
