Three Times Radar Made Christmas Bearable by pie_is_good

Naturally, this has to be my final rec before I turn over the keys to the van:

Fandom: M*A*S*H
Pairing: None.
Length: 1,000 words
Rating: PG
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

Because everyone knows that when all is said and done, Radar is the heart of 4077th. Radar is the man who keeps the machine running - and this story conveys this fundamental truth with touching simplicity. Read it if you want to feel some warm fuzzies before sallying forth into the new year.

Radar looked around, peeking through each door to make sure no one was anywhere nearby before proceeding. Mistletoe hung above the door to the outside; Hawkeye had insisted.

Radar just tried his hardest to avoid walking under it, terrified of having to kiss a nurse unprepared or worse, have a drunken Hawkeye insist on a kiss because of the mistletoe. The one from Trapper had been bad enough.

Satisfied that no one was around, although he had already been pretty sure without looking, he picked up the phone, asking Sparky to put him through to the States and the next operator to put him through to Crabapple Cove.

He explained himself quickly to the senior Dr. Pierce and set down the phone, reaching for the intercom to call Hawkeye to the office.

Two minutes later, Hawkeye picked the phone up from Radar with an annoyed expression fueled with sarcasm on his face, expecting to have to roll his eyes and cater to the whims of a general with gastrointestinal problems or appendicitis.

Two seconds after that, Hawkeye found himself fighting back tears of joy.

He heard from his father on Christmas for the first time in two years.
