Xerophyte by Vigilante_Wake (PG-13)
I'm Jen, and I'll be driving the DC crack van for this month! I have a distinct weakness for happy ending-romances and fics with Superman and Batman in them...so I shall start off with a blackly humorous story featuring Piper and Trickster and not a Super or Bat to be seen. *shrugs* What can I say, it's fantastic.

Why this must be read:
On Christmas Eve, a delirious Piper travels through the desert, still handcuffed to the corpse of Trickster (who may or may not be speaking to him from the great beyond). Yeah, dark. What makes it special are the bursts and glimpses of humor and affection between the two characters--though in the long run, the humor and warmth only seem to make Piper's situation all the more horrifying. It's bleak hurt/comfort, with a prickly, austere beauty like the plant that it's named after. ("xer-o-phyte (zîr'ō-fīt') n. A plant adapted for life with a limited supply of water.")
