Why this must be read:
The story opens at the Crystal Grand Music Theatre, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, in 2013. JC and AJ are taking their solo acts on tour together, alternating as headliners—and may I say, I think this is a brilliant notion and they should do this at once—and as AJ comes off the stage, JC mentions that there's a hot guy in his room.
Turns out, it's Howie, who stays for a few days.
JC theorises that Howie's there for a booty call. This leads to unnerving (to AJ) revelations about Justin, which make me giggle. But Howie leaves unexpectedly, and it's awkward, and AJ doesn't believe it, and... well. Read on.
I like the feel of this story very much. The down-to-earth bits of being on tour, the routine things like soundcheck and timetabling. AJ's slightly downbeat characterisation.
And I really think we should have a Letterboys tour. Lettermen?
"You want to call Howie and see if he wants to come with us?" JC asks as he sits down on the foot of the bed.
AJ doesn't look up from where he's shutting down his laptop, "Howie's gone. Wasn't here when I woke up this morning."
"Oh. Ouch. Did you guys have a fight or something?"
"Huh? What? No, we didn't have a fight. Why would we fight?"
"Okay, so like he was just here for a booty call or something?"
AJ can't believe what he's hearing, "A what? Howie? A booty call. JC, you do know that Howie's straight right? Like was married, has an ex-wife, not into guys, straight."
JC starts laughing, "Are you serious? Howie is not straight, ex-wife or not. Why do you think he's been around so much, AJ? I thought you guys were hooking up."
"You're delusional, JC. Just because Howie's come to visit me does not me that he's interested in me. I mean, if it was Justin coming to visit you like Howie's been doing. Would you think it was a booty call?"
A slow smile crosses JC's face, "Would I think that? No, I would know it."
