Why This Must Be Read:
I don't often read genfic, because, hey, I could just watch the show. But this adorable story (reccd first to me by deadlybride) could be a moment stolen from a lost early episode. Set before the series begins (and Shawn appears on his motorcycle) it's really a tale of Gus. Gus trying to pick up on a girl, Gus trying to look cool, Gus...getting really irritated when Shawn won't let him do either and wants him to focus on his new bike instead.
Gus is woe like you wouldn't believe. If I were Shawn, I'd probably mess with him all the time too. Though of course, deep down, Shawn does care for Gus, and though it doesn't seem like it to Gus at the time, all Shawn's craziness is partly to share his joy with his best friend and partly to keep his best friend from embarrassing himself by picking up on a girl who isn't exactly Gus' type. (Okay and also just a little for the sake of needling Gus).
Very light, very fun. You feel bad for Gus and kind of laugh at him at the same time, just like the show. He always goes along with Shawn...everyone knows he's going to...you just also know why he'd be upset. Poor baby. If only he didn't whine like a little...
