Why this must be read: As far as I'm aware, this is kittyfisher's only LoM fic and by God, it's a brilliant, doozey, gut wrenching piece of fic. It doesn't start out horribly - Sam and Gene trapped in various "boxes" - wardrobes, vans, bedsits, etc. - by a group of nasty crims. By part two, it evolves into a dark, seedy affair with Sam/Gene is it/isn't non-con and possible life ending violence. It'd dark, oh yes, but beautifully written.

That fic...wow, what a mind-breaking fic. I really, really HATE it on some levels; I'm not one to be oversensitive to non-con but this story took me by surprise and left me reeling. Yet it is such a well-written story, it is hard to stay away from it.

I wish so HARD that kittyfisher wrote more in LoM, she's got a fantastic grasp of the characters.

Because they're not linked together, for some reason I'd never read the second half of that! In some ways it works better -- "happy ending" b/c you don't know Sam's going to be raped, just that Sam and Gene are going to hook up.

But still, I'm glad I got to see how she finished it.
