Castaways by Lilacsigil (G)
Fandom: MARVEL COMICS
Pairing: Scott Summers/Jean Grey/Wanda Maximoff (Cyclops/Marvel Girl/Scarlet Witch)
Length: ~3,700 words
Author on LJ:
lilacsigil
Author Website: Just LiveJournal, as far as I know.
Why this must be read:
There's a certain type of story in which each of the characters is a little bit misguided, and they all have conflicting goals, and yet the reader is rooting for them all to succeed. It's a very hard situation for a writer to pull off successfully, especially when there's a love triangle involved. In Castaways,
lilacsigil succeeds to perfection. We see the story from the viewpoint of Scott, who is in love with Jean, who is in love with Wanda. I don't want to spoil the relationship dynamics beyond that, except to say that it's more complicated and -- at the same time -- simpler than that.
This is a story about wanting and having it all, and it practices what it preaches. Along with an intriguing relationship story, great dialogue, and note perfect characterizations, Castaways also has a nicely-developed plot, involving a desert island and a supervillain. Who could ask for anything more, and why would they want to?
