Why this vid kicks ass:
I know I'm only supposed to rec one vid, but I missed crossover day, so I'd like to make it up with an extra vid rec. Besides, I really hated having to choose between these two.

nightchik made "Beautiful Struggle" for vividcon 2008. The rhythm, the timing, the message, the emotion - it's all brilliant. Using images juxtaposed for maximum impact and Talib Kweli's lyrics to add layers of meaning, she makes the Harry Potter story relevant to our own embattled times. From this perspective, it's not just a children's tale about a magical boy who saves the world; it's a paradigm for all the youth who fight back, who struggle and fall and stick together, facing an evil not of their own creation. It's got a bit of a war zone feel to it, and the way nightchik matches the words to what's onscreen emphasizes that sense of desperation and commitment. The closing shots are just right and incredibly haunting.
