Why this must be read:
I want to warn readers up front that this fic doesn't have a happy ending (and also has spoilers for Dark Reign), but I promise that everybody's still much better off at the end than they are in canon right now. Dorky has written some wonderful fluff and PWPs, but this fic is the one that stayed with me for weeks after I'd read it. The characterization is strong, supporting characters like Spiderman, Pepper Potts, and Bucky all have solid roles to play, and the ending is a bittersweet gut-punch that manages to utterly eviscerate you and yet completely redeem Immortal Iron Man and Dark Reign at the same time. Whatever they do in canon, I doubt it will be anywhere near as good as this.
