Slim as dimes by Belasera (NC-17)

Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: Jayne/Kaylee
Length: 7,158
Author on LJ: unkown

Why this must be read There's a crack in the bulkhead between Jayne and Kaylee's rooms. At first Kaylee just listens to Jayne sleeping, but then sex gets in the way and things change. The author depicts the loneliness of the black and the change in emotions between Jayne and Kaylee beautifully. Especially considering that much of the interaction between the two is conducted with a wall dividing them. This was one of the first Jaylee fics I ever read and is what sold me on the pairing. Jayne is sexy, a little bit dim, and a touch amoral and Kaylee is earthy, practical and sweet.

This ship was like the cabinet of the apothecary back home, little compartments all lined up, no one thing leakin' into another. Kaylee sometimes felt like a little bundle of roots in her compartment, never touching another thing. Hearing a real human breathin' next to her was like livin' in the world again, so she let it be. It was just a little crack, couldn't never do no harm.

This was amazing. Unfortunately, I can't leave FB to the author, since the FB engine seems to be broken. So I will say it here - this was amazing!

The notes say this is part 3 of a 37,000 word fic, but there doesn't seem to be any other parts posted at the archive. *confused*

This chapter works as a standalone, I guess?

All the parts are available over at the Blue Sun Room (http://www.fireflyfans.net/fulluserbluesunlist.asp?un=belasera).

::brain melts and oozes out of ears::

Oh my god. That was so hot. I need a Jane...woah.

Now, to the more technical bit - Belasera's ability to capture Kaylee's voice is just outstanding. As a writer I can say that is the hardest thing to do and Belasera did it in spades. ::bravo:: This is a must read for any Firefly fan! Thank you so much for the rec.
