Why this must be read: This is the first story in the long, unfinished "Spaghetti Verse". Set after Teen Titans issue #47 (the funeral of Duella Dent), Jason is left badly hurt by his brothers and makes his way to Roy's rooftop. Roy has a way of taking care of falling Robins. Lian is perfect. No really, her depiction is one of the best I've ever read. She's a kid--snotty, bratty, happy, hopeful, tired, scared, wonderful and silly, all rolled into one. Jason is broken and angry, and Roy is trying to be a good father, trying not to be disappointed in Dick yet again, and trying to understand Jason. This fic is just the tip of the iceberg that involves into a wonderful family story with a hot Jason/Roy pairing and Lian stays perfect all the way through. I squee every time a new installment arrives. Read the first fic here, then click on the tag for "spaghetti verse" for the rest, some of which are NC17.
"Is he gonna be okay?" Lian asked. "He's safe here right? Is he a hero? He looks like he belongs with Unca Dick. Are you sure I shouldn't call him?" She held the phone away from her mouth as she asked the questions. "Aunt Dinah's on the phone, I got her. Just gotta know how. I didn't tell her, I did right, right?"
Roy took the phone with one hand and scooped his daughter up into the tightest hug possible. "You did wonderfully, princess," he told her. "And I'm very proud of you. But under no circumstances are we telling Dick anything. In fact...as long as our stranger is here, it might be best not to mention him. And you keep on deleting all the answering machine messages you want."
Lian hugged her daddy really tightly, since he needed it, and laid her head on his shoulder. "I didn't erase any messages." She looked up at him through her eyelashes innocently. "They just got erased somehow. I think Omar did it."
He pressed a kiss to her cheek. They probably needed to have another talk about fibbing at some point. "And as much as I appreciate your help, I think movie night's going to have to draw to a shorter close than we wanted. Bed time, kiddo."
"It's okay. I understand. He looked really hurt. Did he fight a big villain?" She kissed her daddy on the cheek on the cheek, thinking he seemed sad. "I love you, Daddy. You talk to Aunt Dinah, I can get myself ready for bed on my own."
"Love you too, precious. Good night." Roy gave his daughter another quick kiss on the cheek before setting her down.
"Good night Daddy," Lian sighed. He didn't answer one of her questions. She hugged him again, cause he looked really really really sad, and ran off to put on her PJs. Now where did she put the big teddy?
"Give me a sec, Di," Roy said into the phone. Dinah didn't like being on hold very much, and Roy vaguely wondered if that cry of hers would work through the phone. He knew she was worried. Dinah could always tell when something was wrong, and Lian's refusal to tell anything probably would have made her all the more suspicious.
Still, he didn't want to run the risk of letting Lian overhear him, or disturbing Red Hood even further. The great thing about Roy's new apartment was how well he - and Omar, to be fair - had designed it to be fit for all superhero occasions.
Including the times he had to shut himself in his coat closet and yell his frustrations out to the only adult he could ever fully trust.
Lian finally found her big teddy and put her pajamas on. She'd give the hurt hero the teddy while she was supposed to be brushing her teeth. She sighed when she noticed her daddy had gone back into the closet. Being in the closet was a very bad sign.
