Why this must be read:
This is one of those elegant little vignettes that is all about small, hinting character reveals. The vehicle is Buffy, thinking about the crosses she's collected over the years from all the different people in her life. Each cross and the circumstances it's given in is like a mini-sketch or a captured sense memory of the giver and their relationship with Buffy.

Lovely and simple, and a little bit bittersweet.
