Why This Must Be Read: Really, really, really hot sex. But if you need more of a reason than that... This is an episode tag for 'Shades of Gray', where Sylar goes back for Luke after abandoning him in the diner: pretty much the most written set-up in Sylar/Luke fic, and out of the hundreds of fics that explore this exact situation, this one is head and shoulders above the rest.

The sex is tender and loving (and smoking hot!), but that doesn't stop Sylar from being Sylar, constantly keeping his objective in mind. Ashedrake has a beautiful writing style and a great Sylar voice; with phrases like: There’s a peculiarly sullen beauty to him if you look closely, like an artist painted him with a very limited palette. From his reddish brown locks to his reddish brown eyes, his softly freckled skin and his pink lips, everything fits together, she really hones in Luke's unconventional attractiveness. Unvoiced Apologies strikes a great balance of being romantic without becoming saccharine and there are enough dark hints throughout to make the tenderness-verging-on-fluffiness feel very in character.

Finally, I personally have great affection for smut fics that give a nod to safe sex because it's a woefully underwritten kink of mine.

Excerpt:

He studies the tear streaked face beneath him and sees realization and distrust slowly seeping back into the boy’s expression. As it is now, Sylar’s lost that unconditional adoration he got before without asking for it. He’s told Luke that all he would get from people was pain and disappointment, and it seems as if he’s taken it to heart. But Sylar wants his worshipping boy back right now and he suspects that the right kind of remedy to achieve that with is to give a little adulation right back. Looking down at Luke he finds that giving it won’t be all that trying.

“Trust me,” he says and lifts the shirt, stretching it to a long length of cloth.

“No,” snarls Luke back up at him.

“Yes, Luke. Trust me.”

“I don’t want to,” Luke complains. “I’ve already come running after you like a lost puppy twice now. I don’t want to again.”

“Well, third time’s the charm, Luke. Trust me.”
