Why this must be read:
This is an oldie but a goodie, one I'm surprised hasn't been recced here before. Three Castles was one of the first fics I remember from the very early days of Merlin fandom. That said, it still holds up perfectly well.
The story reads very much like a fairy tale/medieval romantic comedy. It is, like most ofrageprufrock's stuff, equal parts hilarious and touching. (Also, her Arthur voice in particular is superb.) Even if you've already read this fic, it's worth curling up in your favorite chair and settling back in for a re-read.
As for an excerpt, I'll let the first line/summary speak for itself:
It’s a perfectly wretched day in Camelot when Uther Pendragon announces Arthur’s betrothal.
