The Face of God (or, Ianto Hears a Who), by Alex51324. (G)
Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Gen; Ianto, team
Length: ~ 2,000 words
Author on LJ:

Author Website: No website that I know of.
Why this must be read:
Oh, this is absolutely lovely. It's a fascinating story, and an interesting view on the possibilities of life. I love how the author takes a tiny mention of a civilization and fleshes it out and makes it real. In tone it reminds me a bit of Doctor Who. My ultimate non-schmoopy feel-good story of Torchwood.
Of all the creatures and artifacts housed in the lower levels of the Hub, the Jam Jar People were Ianto’s favorites. Since the jar was a self-contained ecosystem, they required very little care, apart from regular cycles of light and dark and an occasional light dusting. The light cycles were provided by an ordinary incandescent bulb on a timer, switching on and off every hour. The dusting was provided by Ianto himself, once a week, using a feather duster reserved for the purpose. The chore required a very light touch--any movement of the jar could be disastrous to the inhabitants.
