Betwixt the Alders and Elms by Tray, (PG)
Hi I'm Ellie and I'm the highlander driver for this month, to start us off something light and fun:
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: gen
Length: 5200 words
Author on LJ:
elistaire
Author Website: Taterville
Why this must be read: Because it's funny and great, and it has unicorns (which shouldn't work but it does). With some great Duncan and Methos interaction.
"So, where is your merry band of intrepid para-normal biologists? What do they call themselves these days? Crypto-zoologists?" Methos closed the door of the T-bird and then leaned against it.
Duncan rolled his eyes and checked his watch. "We're early. They'll be here." He gave Methos a hard look. "And they're just naturalists."
Methos snorted. "I can't believe I let you talk me into this, MacLeod." He slouched even more against the door, crossing his arms on his chest, and looking downright gleeful.
Duncan resisted the urge for another eye-roll. He knew damn well why Methos agreed to come along to help; the closer he was to the action, the more ammunition he would have the next time he decided to bend Joe's ear with half-truths. Duncan decided that ignoring Methos would be the best bet, and he opened the trunk to retrieve their backpacks and the tents. It was only supposed to be one weekend--two nights--but it would be roughing it a bit. Duncan had brought extra supplies, and the cabin would only be a moderate hike away in any event.
At the sound of a vehicle approaching, he looked up. The minivan parked near his car and the side door slid open, spilling out two college-aged kids. Another kid hopped out of the passenger side door.
"Oh, now it all makes sense," Methos said under his breath, and Duncan turned a quick glare on him.
"Duncan! We made it!" The driver of the minivan came around the back and smiled at Duncan and he smiled back. Yeah, he was never going to hear the end of it from Methos. Well, he supposed he was a sucker for a pretty face. And Professor Hayleigh Ferne was extraordinarily pretty, with milk-white skin and coppery-red hair that was very striking. Not to mention that she was smart as well as lovely. Duncan's libido pitter-patted into a sultry merengue whenever she got close.
Methos pushed off the car, only sliding a minute glance Duncan's way, and held out his hand. "Adam Pierson, a friend of Duncan's."
She stuck out her own hand and they shook. "Dr. Hayleigh Ferne. I'm very glad to meet you, Adam. This is Clara, Flossie, and Lance." She motioned to the three young adults hovering behind her, and they all waved or nodded. "Duncan must have told you what we're doing here?"
To Duncan's surprise, Methos didn't smirk. "He told me you were hunting for unicorns."
She narrowed her eyes. "Not hunting, looking for. And you don't seem especially skeptical."
