Rumor Has It by Laura Smith (PG13)
Title: Rumor Has It
Fandom: Burn Notice
Pairing: Michael/Lucy
Author on LJ: Laura Smith (
romanticalgirl)
Author Website: Her LJ
Why this must be read: The series begins with Micheal's Burn Notice. There is a definite dearth of mission fic, but when it's done well, it's amazing. As this fic is. Lucy Chen, one of the people in Micheal's life that he stillslightly trusts goes way back. This is a tale of their possible first meeting.
Author's Summary: He's not goddamn McGuyver.
Excerpt: Being a spy is never easy. It’s not like school where they start you out with the basics and let you work your way up from addition to quantum physics. Being a spy is kind of like dropped off in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and being told to swim to shore. Michael’s first assignment is a little easier than that - overthrow a minor African government with a toothpick, a container of Silly Putty and an empty glass bottle.
Okay, the empty glass bottle is actually a rocket launcher and the toothpick is insider information, but he’s not kidding about the Silly Putty. It is, after all, not just for lifting comics off the newspaper page.
