Why this must be read:
Ok, now we're coming to the end of my month driving the Torchwood van, and because of this, I'm going to finish off by posting a couple of CofE recs. The Long Way Home still makes me well up, and that doesn't happen often. This is a mourning fic, and it's sweet and sad, but doesn't even mention the name of the man who's died. It doesn't have to. Told from the POV of Mica, Ianto's niece, it also manages to be a kidfic that doesn't make my teeth itch from the saccharine. And that's a real achievement.
Mica was only in the churchyard for a little while that day when Mam couldn’t stop crying, but she remembers where he is. She stops in front of the slate marker engraved with his name, and thinks that perhaps she should feel sad, or sorry, but Mam’s cried all the tears in the world already, every day over, and Mica doesn’t have any herself. He wanted to take her to McDonald’s, and she didn’t get to go.
