Never Saw Blue by Arianna (G)

Hey there, I'm Bee and I am going to be at the wheel for The Sentinel Fandom this month - with a backseat driver, Roslyn! Team work is canon in TS!

Why this must be read: Arianna is among our most prolific and gifted authors. Her explorations of both canon and AU storylines, in both slash and gen works, highlights the best of each form of fan fiction without confusing the different forms of intimacy explored in each of those genres (e.g. turning gen into 'pre-slash').

In this story, Jim and Blair are injured, with Jim's recovery complicated by complete loss of memory. This might easily have become a mundane 'amnesia' plot device in the wrong hands. Not so here! Arianna explores how friendship is affected by the loss of 'intimacy' which grows from the sense that one is truly understood/known by another individual through shared memories. References to canon events, combined with excellent character studies, examines changes in Jim's character when he is no longer influenced by the disappointments and traumas of his (now forgotten) past. As Jim tries to fit into a world that has become strange, Blair questions his value to Jim and whether he can continue a friendship - or merit a newly forged one - if memories of their past are not regained.

The journey is a most rewarding read and leaves the reader hoping for a sequel with Arianna's Wolf and the Jag.
