"All Through the Night" by Casira
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Sirius/Remus, faint James/Lily around the edges
Author's website: skyehawke.com archive
Author on LJ:
casira
Why this must be read:
I admit it - I'm a sucker for a good Christmas-fic. (Yes, I'm that girl who still gets all sniffly at "It's a Wonderful Life.") And this lovely story by Casira pushes all my buttons.
Inspired by the shots of a children's choir in the Prisoner of Azkaban movie trailer, Casira has created a haunting Christmas tale taking place during Sirius, Peter, Remus, and James' 5th year at Hogwarts. While the first inter-house choir rehearses for a Christmas concert, Sirius starts hearing a mysterious voice echoing in the halls, and Remus feels withdrawn from his friends.
A moving mix of boyish humor, holiday melancholy, and a sweet, subtle thread of Sirius and Remus realizing certain things. There is particularly excellent use of some of the older, darker Christmas carols that make the story all the more moving. This one never fails to make me a little misty-eyed.
