Paying Attention by sage_theory (R)

FandomThe SENTINEL
Pairing Jim/Blair
Length 504 words
Author on LJ [livejournal.com profile] sage_theory
Author Website The link I have for this story (http://www.paper-hearted.org/ffiction.html) expired on the 22nd of February, 2010 but she is also currently working on archiving all her stories on AO3.
Why this must be read:
The author's summary of this short little fic is "Jim is talking, Blair isn't listening." but it is SO much more.

This is my first post on Crack Van and I always knew that if I were to drive the Crack Van for The Sentinel fandom that this would be my first rec. It is hard to find (and as far as I can tell no longer exists on-line at all), few have read it, and it presents a version of Blair that I just adore. This Blair has moved in and made Jim's loft his own. He's self-absorbed. He is taking advantage of Sentinel vulnerabilities. He is making big plans. Poor Jim (and his color-coded Tupperware) never stood a chance.

The story is short enough that I have simply put it behind a cut since it has now disappeared from the Web.

ETA: Well, oops. Apparently I was not suppose to post a story in its entirely that has been removed from the internet. I am SO sorry. In the comments that follow, there are suggestions as to how to go about contacting the author and getting permission. I will follow up on it.

Also, I am deleting only the story, not the entire post, because people have already commented and that seemed rude to them.

I really am sorry about this. I had no clue what I was doing was wrong.

ETA #2: HAPPINESS! I found the author (massive thanks to those of you who provided me with enough clues to find her!) and she has very graciously agreed to rush and post this story to her site at Archive of Our Own. So, I can now legitimately rec this wonderful story.

Here it is:

Paying Attention

Sadly, almost none of the actual story links seem to work (I get a Not In Archive message). I guess we'll have to wait for her to post at AO3.

\0/ Yay, your first post. Don't you feel accomplished? I look forward to a great month of recs.

Hi, this has never really come up before on the comm, but I have to say I am not comfortable with us re-archiving in its entirety a fic that an author has removed from the internet. Please remove this post as soon as possible, or a mod will delete.

You may wish to try to contact the author via her profile on the Archive of Our Own site, to see if she would be willing to re-upload for you there or elsewhere. Thanks and good luck.

I'm very glad I got to read this before it gets taken down! It's a great short story that deserves to be posted somewhere and not permanently lost.

Sadness, sweetie. I didn't know it was wrong either. It looks as if she's actively posting stories at AO3 (last date was March 2) so it's entirely likely that it will show up there. Especially with a little feedback. ^_^

I was really excited to read a story by an author I'd never heard of. Thanks for sharing and don't get discouraged.

I'm sad I missed it but will keep checking back to see if you got permission to post it or permission to post an actual active link to the story.

I love it! Very funny and very Blair. Thanks for your perseverance!

Super hooray! And look what you did -- with your love of this story you affected the fandom. Since TS isn't her main fandom it probably would have been a while before she posted it -- perhaps not ever! So good for you. And I'm sure you made her day with your feedback.

It's a funny story and a bit different from the usual treatment. Our Blair selfish? Is it possible? Mais oui! Thanks for the rec -- I would never have heard of the author otherwise.

It is incredibly awesome that you got the story back online - thank you!
