Why this must be read: And now for something completely different...I have to admit I fell in love with the idea of David Cook and Carrie Underwood being together when I saw the video of them singing together at the Disney Experience (go watch the video, it's ridiculously cute and awesome). I couldn't ever really find fic with that pairing but I just loved the idea of them being all pretty and talented and adorable together. Then Carrie got engaged and I somehow stumbled onto empressearwig's fics that fulfilled my need for angst and heartbreak. This is a beautiful story about their friendship and about never realizing how much you want something until it's too late. She writes both of their personalities so well, and David's distress and heartache over Carrie's engagement is never melodramatic or over the top. Her other Cook/Carrie stories are fantastic as well. Go read this little gem and remember to give the author some love.
