All The Places by Ambress (PG-13/R)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: ~2500 words
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Her Gossamer Page; Her Site Via Wayback
Why this must be read:
I was originally going to rec Tidings, which is a lovely little Mulder-returns-post-requiem AU piece. However, when I went to read through it again, I found this on her Gossamer page, and remembered how amazingly brilliant it was. Ambress is at her best when her complex use of language can shine, when it's okay and not distracting that every sentence contains a new (and fitting) metaphor. This style is perfectly fitted for her description of Mulder during his telepathic phase, of the schizophrenic feeling of being able to hear everything. I also love this story because of the way it appropriates the language of smut, genderswaps it fluidly, and then deploys it to mean something that is both intensely sexual and yet entirely other.
The PG-13/R rating is for sexual metaphors and language and a little bit of cursing.
