Five Senses Slash Virtual Seasons by various authors (G to NC-17)

Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: episode-length
Author on LJ:
Series  Website:  Five Senses Home Page

Why this must be read: Because it’s a gold mine for anyone who misses the episodic setup of the show.

Although I like a wide variety of genres, I really enjoy a good case story. After all, Jim and Blair always had *something* to solve each week, in between all the eating and touching! In reviewing some candidates, I realized many of them were originally part of the Slash Virtual Seasons series. Way back in 2000, a group of authors decided to continue where the show left off. They wrote episodes that built on each other and had holiday special stories just for fun.

The series starts directly after the show – Jim’s leg wound is still healing and Blair is contemplating going to the academy. But our fans treat our heroes a lot better than the show writers – the mess of TSbyBS gets resolved to allow Blair a lot more life choices. One option is to become a PD consultant. He also pursues shaman studies. There’s plenty of action, and case solving. And there’s also love. Apparently, at one of the cons, Richard Burgi predicted that if the show had continued another season or two Jim and Blair would have ended up in bed. He’s known for his sense of humor but I expect he saw a grain of truth in that, considering how touchy-feeling they were during the show.

So, enjoy these if it’s the first time you’ve seen them, or rediscover these hidden treasures that have been quietly sitting in their archives all these years. The contributors are a Who’s Who of the early days of our fandom. I love these, not only because of the stories but because it represents what’s best about this fandom: dedicated writers cooperating to make a large project for the sheer enjoyment of it.

Thanks for the memories! I had some pieces on there that I forgot I did! And all the stories are worth reading again.

I'm so glad to see these recced! I adore the SVS fics, and one of them (Mountie Who Fell To Earth) got me hooked on my now favorite fandom, due South.

Thanks! It was certainly fun to do and a great self-teaching tool for me, since I was just starting out in manipulation.

And as you said the stories are wonderful!
