Our Mutual Friend by Valeria (R)
Fandom: Homicide: Life on the Street
Pairing: Tim Bayliss/Chris Rawls; Kay Howard/John Munch (implied)
Author on LJ:
verdandi,
violetisblue
Website: http://www.certando.net; all the Homicide fic can be found at http://www.certando.net/fic1.html.
Why this must be read: This is the third part of a three part series Called Summer of '98 (part one, Two Partners, and two, Long Hot Summer Night, are also well-worth reading). All three parts stand alone quite nicely, and this one's my favorite. It's Chris Rawls waiting at Tim's bedside after he gets shot, and then having a conversation with Kay Howard. It's simple and clean and gets the voices right, plus it just gets the *feel* right of what it's like to be waiting while someone you love is sick or injured and surrounded by all the accoutrements of modern hospitalization. Just the first line, "He's getting to know the nurses now," brings you right in, and there you stay, and it's an interesting place to be, in Chris Rawls' head, at least as Vali writes him. And if you're a big Munch/Howard fan, make sure you read the first two parts of this story.
Summer of '98 III: Our Mutual Friend.
Note: I'm going out of town for a week and probably won't be able to post any recs during that time. Rest assured I have some great ones to come in the remaining weeks. Any feedback on how these recs are working for people? Also, I already posted a cross-over rec (the first story of Vali's I recced, The Accidental Finale), but I hope others will rec some crossovers in their month of recs!
