Why this must be read:
Thiis little story has been a fave of mine for years. Again, it takes a popular TS theme and does a superb job to make it fresh, and it's still hot and fun after all these years.
Written from Blair's pov, it details his difficulty with lusting after Jim. Once, he accompanied Jim to the gym, but being in such proximity to his sweaty, well-muscled friend was too disconcerting. So, this time when Jim goes to the gym alone, Blair is free to fantasize about him, and happily goes to his room for a little personal time with images of the man of his dreams.
Vera's style is light-hearted and her Blair is amusingly self-deprecating.
Visions of Jim rushed back in to fill the lust sucking void that he'd previously called a mind.
Then comes my favorite part:
He considered his options. Malibu Jim in form fitting wetsuit, begging to be peeled off? Muscle Jim, damp-patched sweats clinging to his ass and thighs? Kevlar Jim? No contest.
"Malibu Jim" has always made me visualize that well-known pic of Richard Burgi in his earlier seres, "One West Wakiki", the one where he's in the bathing suit standing knee deep in ocean water. Hot, just like this adorable story.
Blair doesn't suffer in silence much longer; after some embarrassment due to Simon and Darryl, he learns that all along Jim has known how he feels and Vera provides an appropriately happy ending. This little classic wasn't online for a long time, and I was happy to see it on Archive of Our Own when Vera posted it there.
