The Providential Dismissal Quandary by htbthomas (PG)

Hi everyone! I'm Jen and I'll be taking the van up along Euclid Avenue and beyond for The Big Bang Theory in December. Well, once I get adjusted to being on the other side of the road, that is, 'cause it feels so wrong to me! (I should also point out that I'm about as keen on driving as Sheldon, but I'll happily brave up for this worthwhile cause...)

Here is the overview for those new to the show, or just want a refresher.

Fandom: THE BIG BANG THEORY
Pairing: Sheldon/Penny
Length: Multipart, around 20k in total
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] htbthomas
Author Website: fanfiction tag or at AO3
Why this must be read:

This is really something to treasure. Described by the author as an episode-style fic, it features the full cast to comedic perfection. The story begins with Penny thinking it might be fun to attend Comic-Con, but not entirely sure which character she should go as, and this sets off a train of events focusing on Sheldon and Penny as they are unwittingly thrown together and must deal with each other as best they can. There is a fantastic middle act in which Penny auditions for a science show and gets much more than she bargained for. I won't spoil the plot any more because it's such terrific fun; [livejournal.com profile] htbthomas nails the characters wonderfully, and the dialogue just snaps off the page. Terrific stuff.

"What the frak?!" Howard cried out, floored. "Why didn't anyone tell me about this?"

Raj guided Howard away from the line, far from Dr. Ikeda's look of disdain. "They told
everyone, Howard. It's been in the departmental newsletter everyday this week."

"It was?" Howard paused in thought a moment, and then made a dismissive gesture. "Eh, no one reads those anyway." He strode toward the end of the line, and picked up the audition script from the sign-in table. "I'd be
perfect for this. By the time I get to the front of the line, I'll have it down cold."

Raj stood and looked at him, eyebrow raised.

"Aren't you going to join me? You could be the next Sanjay Gupta!"

Raj did nothing more than point at the several women in the line, and the cute female casting assistant taking names.

"So?"

Raj shook his head in disgust, as much with himself as with his friend, and lifted a hand as if to say, '
More power to you -- I'm outta here.'

"Hey, if you aren't going to audition, at least you could keep me company..." Howard called futilely after Raj's retreating back. "Fine. See if I put
you in my entourage."
