Why this must be read:

[livejournal.com profile] boonies is one of the first writers I read when I came to the show and began trawling through the archives from this fandom, and this one in particular will always stick with me because while the concept is a good old comedic staple (amnesia!fic), the execution is a joy from start to finish. When Penny wakes up one day with the belief that Sheldon's her boyfriend, his instinctive failsafe solution of breaking up with her proves impossible to accomplish, as each time it happens they are forced to relive the whole day again. There is much fun to be had from this, with a wonderfully in-character POV from Sheldon, and some clever interaction from the guys along the way.

"Okay, so maybe we did something that," Raj says, drawing a bent loop on Leonard's whiteboard, "messed up the space-time continuum?"

Leonard taps a marker to his chin. "The real question here is: how do we fix it?"

Howard uncaps another marker, scribbling on the board. "Was there a lab accident we aren't aware of?"

"Irrelevant," Sheldon joins in, happily scrawling equations on his own board. "There are inherent benefits to being stuck in this loop," he says. "We will never grow older, never make a mistake we won't be able to correct, and all while we further our undying search for knowledge. This is an ideal situation!"

"Oh, really?" Leonard challenges. "And when you do figure out string theory, how are you going to win the Nobel Prize if everyone else is still stuck on a Sunday?"

"...we'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
