Why this must be read:

You've never heard of Conference Wives?

Really?

May I ask which rock you've been living under?

The Conference Wives series has been around of donkey’s years (in fandom terms). A collection of drabbles and short fics, it was probably one of the first Charlie/Ian stories.

The premise would be contrived if handled by another author but [livejournal.com profile] dance_the_code makes it work. Charlie gets a call to tell him that two of his old friends from Princeton, a lesbian couple, have been killed and he is to inherit their young son who he fathered for them.

On top of dealing with a child he never told his family about he has to find out what really happened to his son's mothers, deal with a bigoted Amita, a completely psycho Marshall Penfield and a father who is not too thrilled about the fact that his youngest son is now being courted by a sniper. There's also a paintball gun and fichus tree involved.

This story is a bit different because all the characters start out much earlier in the cannon than most, but it's really worth reading for the relationships. Ian and Charlie build slowly but beautifully. Don and Coop are great going from ex-partners to something more serious. And even though they are not the main focus of the story, Megan and Larry are never sweeter or better together than they are in this series.

This is a series you can lose an afternoon or three going through but it's completely worth it.
