Why this must be read:

The dust from the explosion had barely cleared before Andy leapt through the opening, gun at the ready. Distantly, he heard Lucas order the others to set up a perimeter, but all his attention was focused within the confines of Colby’s cell.

The smell, the sheer physical miasma of the tiny room, was overwhelming, sweat and piss and blood thick in the air.

“Oh, God,” Andy said as he spotted Colby, rifle clattering to the floor, a wave of nausea surging through him.

Once in a rare while an OC is written with enough detail, humanity and love that he becomes cannon in the minds of many.

This is the case with Andrew Callahan of [livejournal.com profile] swingandswirl ’s An Officer And His Gentleman series.

This story takes place during Colby's days in Afghanistan. Colby is captured by Al Qaeda forces and his secret love and team mate Andy must rescue him before it’s too late.

While as dramatic as anything on TV (if you're a fan of The Unit you'll like this), the real nail biting, gut wrenching drama is watching Colby and Andy fight to keep their relationship secret or face the wrath of DADT.

So read this because it's a brilliant story with a brilliant OC that is so easy to fall in love with you will desperately wish he was cannon.
