Why this must be read: Wild Justice is one of my favourite episodes and this story seamlessly follows on from it. Catastrophe Theory covers the consequences of Bodie’s actions, shows us parts of Bodie and Doyle’s past, reveals the depth of their partnership and relationship, and fleshes out characters like Jack Craine and Kate Ross as well. Beautifully written with the characters captured perfectly this is intriguing and involving and a story you will want to read over and over again.

Excerpt

For anyone not “management” or minister-class, being in the CI5 Conference Room at any time was something to be politely resisted. On a misty Sunday morning, with Friday’s sandwiches mouldering on the sideboard and the floor awash with bits of paper, it was to be resisted with every remaining ounce of self-respect left in your body.

Jack Craine, in his weekend civvies, was almost consumed by the need to demonstrate this resistance.

He had arrived growling and remained the only person in the room in the least bit animated. While the other three occupants were more or less motionless in their seats as befitted serious meetings on serious topics, he stayed bouncing lightly on his toes by the big windows, furious at having been summoned to HQ on a day off and frankly disbelieving about what he had just heard suggested.

"No," he said to Cowley as soon as he could get in a word. “Leave Bodie alone.”
