Has-beens and Wannabes by Kikkimax

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: gen
Length: 10720 words

Why this must be read: - Blair is a cop, but because of media attention he has been assigned to work cold cases, and Jim has chosen to go with him. When they hear of a murder, TPTB won't listen to their thoughts on the situation because Blair is the witness - Jim was 'too far away' to hear anything. It sets in motion a series of events that changes everything.

Kikkimax always weaves an interesting story and this is no exception as Blair discovers exactly what most of the cops in the PD think of him.

That was always something that bothered me about the end of the series: making Blair a detective.

It all sounded good and right until you actually gave it 30 seconds thought. No way he could touch anything or testify to anything because any half-decent defense attorney would have no trouble using it against him/the prosecution to raise reasonable doubt if not out and out fabricating/manipulating evidence. And the best you could hope from a jury was "I think Sandburg's a stand up guy, but I just can't be completely sure."

No police department would hire him with that liability hanging over him.

Good story though.

At a convention (which I can't remember the date of, it was in LA) the producers said that Blair actually becoming a cop was not in the plans.
