Do Over by Joandarck (PG)

Hi all.  I'm back for another spin.  I've missed this!

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Blair/Jim
Length: 7000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] joandarck
Author Website: http://joandarck.livejournal.com/tag/complete%20fic%20index

Why this must be read:
Because Amnesia!Fic can be so much fun. It’s like a different meeting AU plus an outsider’s POV rolled into one.

In this case, the outsider is Jim, who wakes up in his bed with a worried dark-haired stranger hovering over him. When he starts to question everything, Blair gets understandably upset. I like Joan’s characterizations. Yes, we see Blair hyper and a bit panicky as he realizes the situation. However, once he knows Jim isn’t in immediate danger, he settles into his more analytical, helpful mode. Jim, even in an unknown situation, falls back on his basic instincts to not panic and scope out the situation. He weighs each new revelation against his intuition. It feels comfortable, so he’s willing to wait things out and learn what he can.

He also makes some understandable but erroneous assumptions about their relationship. Especially when he decides to call in sick:

Banks growled. Jim's ears ached. "Put Sandburg on the line!"

"He wants to talk to you, chief."

Blair gave him an odd look and took the phone with a cheerful, "Hi, Simon!" So Jim's boss assumed Blair would be here first thing in the morning. Well, well. Jim watched as Blair paced up and down, waving his hand and spinning like a politician. For someone who came off vaguely shifty when he was shooting straight, he could be a glowing ball of sincerity when telling lies. Jim felt a kind of baffled affection sitting heavy in his chest. It was big; it held him down. He wondered if he'd understood Blair before. He suspected he'd loved him.

The shouting had subsided to barking with the occasional chuckle by the time Blair got done with the song and dance and hung up with a warm, "I will, Simon, I promise. You can count on me."

"He doesn't believe in sick days?"

Blair huffed, amused. "You're the one who doesn't believe in them. Usually you'd insist on going in there with a fever or the tape still sticky on your cracked ribs. Simon thought you must be dying." Blair shook his head like that was hilarious, then added, "Don't worry, I talked him out of it." He moved to the stove and started opening cupboards.

"I'm sick, so my boss wants to speak to you? What are you, my wife?"

Joan came late to the fandom and made the snort-worthy The Gayest Show On Earth vid essay after seeing only a few episodes. Despite all the fun she pokes at the show, you can feel her genuine affection and how much she cheers for them. Enjoy.

Ok awesome rec! I'd never heard of this author, but I've now got not only her Sentintel fic tagged for reading BUT I see she wrote some dS fic. A good day for, Hare! Thank you.

P.S. I'd send her feedback, but I've noticed that lj doesn't seem to notify people when something is left on one of ther older posts...and this fic was from many years ago...doubt she will see it. I solemnly swear to find a way to send her feedback at some point. :)

Great rec! Just about a month ago I was trying to find a working link for the video to share with someone in the H50 fandom. Sentinel is still the champeen!

Sentinel is still the champeen!

We hold these truths to be self-evident.
