Why this must be read:
"It’s probably the Klausmas demon," Anya said, still re-arranging the crystals. Everyone stared at her.
"I was just about to say that," Giles said indignantly.
"The what demon?" Willow asked.
"Klausmas. I told you about it at dinner the other night. Comes down chimneys, disembowels kids…."
"I—I thought you were kidding," Tara said, and Willow nodded in agreement.
"Have you guys ever seen Anya joke?" Xander asked.
Hee. BtVS does Christmas! Pangs was one of my favorite episodes, and this story rather reflects that. We see two Christmas-y episodes on the show--Amends, which, to be honest, was rather dour, and The Body, in the flashback at dinner. And you know? I'm not gonna watch Joyce die over and over to get a little Christmas cheer.
This, like Pangs, is pretty much a straight-up example of what might happen to the characters when faced with your average Sunnydale Christmas. Lots of banter, some plot, and you have a nice little genfic to warm your hearts on Christmas morn. Or a May morning, as it might be.
