I could seriously rec just about any fic from Petronelle. She is honestly that good, and it's not just about the smut, indeed far from it as her fics with sex in them are just as much about the tangled relationships between characters and the ways in which people are terribly complex and often terribly fucked up and struggling to articulate what they really want out of life. She captures the inability to put words to things better than anyone else I've ever read.
So here we have Gene struggling to express a thing that at some level he believes he shouldn't want. Good luck with that, DCI Hunt!
