A Penny From Heaven by Em Brunson (PG)
Fandom: BABYLON 5
Pairing: Sheridan, Garibaldi
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: Emland (but her Babylon 5 fic is not there for some reason)
Why this must be read:
I wanted to rec Em's The Wishing Tree, but now that her old website's gone her fic is notoriously hard to find, and she hasn't archived her B5 fic on her new site (which is to say, if you know her, yell at her and tell her we want her B5 fic back!). The Wayback Machine gave me the link above, which hits the first three chapters of "The Wishing Tree" but didn't catch the rest of the story. So instead, I'm rec'ing Em's beautiful post-series implied Sheridan/Garibaldi AU.
"A Penny from Heaven" is set late in Sheridan's life, in an alternate universe that spun off roughly from the Shadow War, in which Garibaldi never came back after going missing and Sheridan never knew why he'd been betrayed. Here's Sheridan and his young son David, and Sheridan reconstructing whatever happened to Mr. Garibaldi after he left the station.

Mars. Sheridan heard the dry click of his own swallow, as he gazed out the tinted flitter window. God damn. This place again. So many memories, so many --
"Captain. I was starting to think you weren't going to make it here."
Music, in his ears. Fighting the pump of adrenaline, the shock of hearing a familiar voice.
"Have you heard anything else about my father?"
"Nah, just that he's being held in a facility here on Mars." Such a familiar tone, like old times. His right arm, his trusted colleague. So easy to believe it. "He's not being heavily guarded right now, because Clark hasn't announced that he's been captured yet."
Excellent. So hard to look at him, for some reason. But this is such good news. Better than he has expected.
"So we need to move before that happens."
"Yeah." Why is he looking away? So nervous, as nervous as I am. For the same reasons?
*"What do you want me to do?" Ready for something, anything.
"You've already done it."
Sting. Biting cold colder than the Martian wind no colder than the thought that comes so slowly to his stunned brain: betrayal you've sold me out Michael you've betrayed
He jolted in his seat, breathing heavily. Still so fucking hard, even after all these years. The knowledge that this was Michael, this was Garibaldi who had done it. Not some anonymous thug but Michael Michael Michael.

Firstly, yay! We're finally getting B5 recs in this community :) I'm an oldish fan of the show (since 1998) but a newish fan of the fanfic (well, I mostly read slash, but I'm always up for good femslash and even het & gen), so it'll be interesting to see what you're going to rec.
Secondly, I have Em's stuff saved on my computer from when the site was still up, so if someone needs the files, I'll gladly email them. The fics I have are A Penny from Heaven, The House of Flesh (love!), The Hammer and the Stone, Benedictus and The Wishing Tree. I have them saved as html only, so the original tags are still there, but it wouldn't be a big job to copy+paste them into slightly prettier and smaller text files. Just say the word and I'll send them :)

They're all in a .zip file in the 'misc. stories' file. Which is a lot of trouble, but they are very worth it.
And, thank you so much for the nice things you said about my story!
