Why this must be read:
I love the facets of Blair's character that are exposed in this story. This fascinating story has Blair as the wise officer to an energetic rookie cop. He is called in to make up for past favors and transport a suspicious cargo through a slow speed chase instead of working on the all the paperwork accumulated through good detective work. As a result of all of the tumult, Sandburg and Ellison are blessed with a way to fix the paperwork problem.

"Right. We're just outside Lakebridge, the radio on this heap doesn't work, we're being followed by two guys in a white pickup and maybe by a guy in an old Datsun, and just to make it interesting, the oil light on this rig has started flickering on and off. Oh, and the guy with me graduated from the Academy last month. Not that I'm prejudiced here, seeing as how I've only been out a year myself, but I think it's a factor in the equation. If you know what I mean."
