"Big Yellow Taxi" by Dargie
Fandom: Oz
Pairing: Toby Beecher/Chris Keller
Author on LJ:
dargie
Why this must be read: Reading Big Yellow Taxi in the e-zine "Institutionalized" was a decisive experience; it was the first story I read that urged me to write. It's so good you could cry, so wonderfully written you have to feel jealous and so suggestive it's hotter than hot. Dargie is one of the best writer in Oz fandom - and in many others too; read it. it's full of what I call her own "quiet despair", something both sweet and sad that brings tears to your eyes.
A quote? Read the introduction Flash to the moment when Toby forgives Chris in the computer room, then pulls away as Chris tries to kiss him. Now imagine this: It’s the last time Toby ever sees Chris in Oz. There was no New Year’s reconciliation, no serial Keller, and for the purpose of this story, there was never a kidnapping and murder. Oz, as we know it, just stops when Toby walks out of that computer room.
Now flash forward. It’s ten years later...
and
Chris walked up to the door of the house and unlocked it. “I think you’ll like this place, Mr. Reimondo. It’s a classic Mediterranean style with a spectacular view of the city.”
“We met in Oswald, a maximum security prison. You were in for killing a store owner, I was in for killing a child.”
Chris turned and looked at him. Hard. Then he took a deep breath and smiled. “Birds of a feather, huh? The house was built in the late fifties. It has four bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a sun porch off the kitchen.”
“You’ve been married five times, counting Jill, to four different women.”
This stopped Chris in his tracks. “What?”
“You married Bonnie twice.”
