Five Billion Years Of Sunshine by Maayan
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Author: Maayan
Author website: The Janissary
Author on lj:
_maayan
Pairing: Various including Teal'c/Daniel and Jack/Daniel
Rating: 1 to 6 are PG-13. 7 is NC17.
Why this must be read:
This story consists of seven different ways SG-1 could have destroyed the world and it is utterly brilliant. Maayan uses takes senarios from the show and where SG-1 save the day, in Five Billion Years of Sunshine, they don't. And the effects are catastrophic.
This is a very clever idea and each section is superbly written and told from the point of view of a different character, displaying Maayan's astonishing command of characterisation. At least two are told from the pov of original characters who are very different from each other and the canon characters.
Something I particularly like about this story is that although some of the sections are painful and heart-rending, one is touching and another funny and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer one very clever. This is a very intelligent story and thought-provoking as well.
Daniel's frown involved his whole face, eyebrows invading the forehead, cheeks retreating, following the lead of a down-turned mouth. The shorter hair brought out his moods, too, like an exclamation point. He opened his mouth quickly, but closed it again slowly, as if the meaning of Jack's words had sunk in beyond the delivery, and he had found, a little late, that he couldn't disagree with any of it.
"Don't you think a Wanted poster, ten feet by ten: Linea, guilty of genocide, wanted dead or alive, preferably dead, might work as good as an encyclopedia?" Jack heard a kind of flap, flap, a somersault in his throat and ears, but it wasn't the murder of crows, back to spin worms out of the marsh. It was something alive and cold and black under his ribs, like a bird in a cage trying to slip out through the bars. He tried to breathe around it. "Or better yet. Wanted: SG-1, for criminal stupidity." He pointed at his scarred eyebrow. "That's my best profile."
