Wow, thanks for this fabulous overview. I've never been tempted by anime or manga fandoms before, but that vid you recced (Possession)was awesome and total hooked me. Now I have spent the last couple of days (and a small fortune) gathering up all the yaoi anime I can find. I even bought the first 3 books of the Gravitation manga (ack!).
