Why this must be read:
Merlin sees him across a crowded living room and promptly spills his beer down the back of the couch and over some hapless stranger’s neck.
If I had to classify this fic in a trope, I’d put this in with ‘roomate-fic’, where Arthur and Merlin become roommates due to ~circumstances~ when they don’t quite know each other well. Then they become something like best friends, inexorably drawn to each other, and try to keep the true extent of their feelings hidden. But the drama in this story stems from a secret in Arthur’s past that he’s trying to keep hidden because it presents a danger to almost everyone around him. The mystery elements of the circumstances in this story are deftly handled and interestingly constructed.
