We Could Be In Skegness by alana_lerryn
Woo-hoo – I’ve got the van again! Thanks to
byslantedlight for some great recs last month – I’ll try and keep it going.
Okay, I’ve filled the tank, checked the tyre pressure and we’re all ready to go, so buckle up and enjoy the ride! Mirrors, signal, mirrors, manoeuvre – and we’re wheel-spinning away from the kerb – yippee!
Our first stop is in

Why this must be read: This is a fantastic little fic, short and punchy, and it gives us a great insight into the lads’ feelings for one another. Here’s Bodie, willing to take the shot because it doesn’t matter as much to him, and Doyle, reluctant but determined to do it and taking comfort from Bodie. Doyle's snarkiness and Bodie's more phlegmatic attitude are illustrated in this little snippet:
“It doesn’t seem right,” he said. The words forced themselves out of his mouth and immediately he wished he had closed his teeth over them and let them remain unsaid.
“Lots of things in this world aren’t right,” Bodie said. “But we have to deal with them. No one said life was fair.”
“Philosopher Bodie?” Doyle sneered. “Shall I call you Einstein?”
“He wasn’t a philosopher. He was a theoretical physicist.”
Lovely! Enjoy the twist at the end, too - I didn't see this one coming, I admit *g* And even though I now know the twist, the characterisation is so good that I can read this again and still maintain the wow factor at the end. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Thank you! I'd read this one before, so it was nice to go back and have another read - I love the chatter between them, and the support Bodie gives; I'm still not sure canon Doyle would do something like that, but then without the backstory it's hard to judge... I'm being too thinky today! It's a great fic, and I love the twist at the end.
I'm looking forward to see what else you come up with this month... it's so lovely to have Pros back on the van regularly.

It'll be interesting finding other things to rec - I did have Fox's Wedding on my list but you beat me to it *g* And being thinky is a good thing :)

LOL - you're saying what I mean much better than me *g* I see them both as hard as old boots too, it's just that I can't see Doyle just doing what he does without a heck of a good reason for doing it - so in the back of my mind I'm desperately wanting to know 'Why?'
Hee! for beating you to Fox's Wedding - I do so love that story... and doing a spin in the van made me realise how much I've still haven't read - yay!
