Hi, I'm Jas, and I'm going to be reccing hockey RPF through August. All recs will be slash, over a variety of teams and pairings, but there will probably be slightly more Kane and Toews pairings than any others.

There has been a lovely hockey RPF primer already, but as pairings change it's a little out of date, so I'll occasionally add in a link for primers for that pairing severally or together, too. Here, I am linking you to a fabulous Geno Malkin primer which includes a link to a Sid/Geno primer here. If you have time to spare, this link was part of a series of weekly anti-lockout squee on this journal, so if you browse that tag you can while away an enjoyable three horrible months of the goddamned lockoutfew hours.

Why this must be read:

In this fic Sidney Crosby is a Sentinel, discovering his powers. You need to know absolutely nothing about the old TV show, but I suppose it did delight my old-skool slashers heart to be reminded of an old favorite.

Common hockey tropes are that Sidney Crosby is weird, bless him, and the Eastern Conference Russians (the Russian knitting circle) are somewhat mother-hen-ish and this fic combines those things beautifully.

The author is a beautiful writer, taking us through Sidney's journey with great humor and feeling.

“Geno, I can’t — you go without me,” Sidney shouts through the door.

He hears footsteps, and then Geno’s voice is clear as anything, even with the door between them. “Sick?” Geno asks.

That sounds like a better explanation than his clothing having it out for him. “Yes,” Sidney says, then immediately follows it with, “No.”
