Why this must be read:

A shorter fic this time, but no less satisfying, in my view. ‘Sleeping Prince’ is unashamedly romantically angsty, and hits a particular button of mine, which is showing how the connection between the two lads is so deep and essential, removing one from the partnership is likely to destroy the other.

We join them in the aftermath of a bad op. Neither knows the true state of the other, and assumes the worst – in Doyle’s case, with a drastic reaction. But Bodie will not give up, and it’s his steadfastness and devotion that gets us to the happy ending (see, you knew there would be one, right? I never do sad stuff!).

The picture of Doyle’s family life is both convincing and affecting, and such is the writer’s skill, you get easily drawn into their POVs. But what resonates particularly with me is the image of Bodie, standing guard in the rainy night, waiting for a chance; hesitant, and full of regret….
