Fandom: STAR TREK: ALTERNATE ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: Jim Kirk/Spock
Length: 57,642 words
Author on LJ:
waldorph
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
This is an alternate universe story (of an canon alternate universe, natch!) where Spock's family moves to Earth early in his life and he makes friends with one James T. Kirk, even though Sarek and Amanda think the other boy is Trouble. Spock is steadfast with his friendship, though, and that makes for a wonderful story, both angsty and fun in turns. The side characters (Amanda, Sybok, Pike, T'Pring, Stonn) really help make this story, because the author fleshes them out and gives them all real, believable motivations and interests. This is a fantastic combination of world-building and canon reference.
Author's Summary: Spock met Jim when he was 7 and Jim was 6. It has since been generally agreed that this was a mistake (or: the one where they grow up together and things are simultaneously better and worse for it).
