Why this must be read: “Night Shift” is one of the more painful episodes to watch for those of us interested in the relationship between Jim and Blair. Not surprisingly then, there isn’t much fic about it. Yet it begs to be analyzed: How did two men who have become so close misjudge each other so clearly? How do they go forward? Why didn’t they heed Gabriel’s advice?
In her author’s notes, Swellison explains the ties she has to the episode, but in our discussions she shared the same frustrations with it that I have: some of the canon just seems incomprehensible. In this story, a collection of missing scenes, she tries to make sense out it. With the next
sentinelbigbang set to publish next month, I thought it would be nice to showcase a previous story. “Words With Friends” was written for last year’s TS Mini Bang and I was privileged to get a sneak peek by being a cheerleader/early beta for it. As with all Big Bang entries, there's a lovely piece of art to go with it.
