guide us on the straight path by codesandhearts (teen)
Fandom: TEEN WOLF
Pairing: Gen (some hints of Vernon Boyd/Erica Reyes)
Length: 1500+
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: In a different vein than my previous two recs, this fic is a quieter (and shorter) character study.
Here we have a story that takes the headcanon of Boyd being Muslim and expands on it - what motivates him, what makes him tick, what he feels and thinks, what his faith means to him. It's a stunning portrayal of a character - and a faith - that rarely gets this kind of representation in the fandom. It's revealing and perfectly paced and beautiful.
The best part, though, is that even for a fic written pre-S3 it's almost prescient. Some of the details woven throughout the fic reflect what was revealed later in canon in a way that feels a bit like being slapped across the mouth.
This is a bittersweet fic in a different way from my first rec in that the reality of canon sharpens its edges and makes it melancholy. But in a way that also makes it even more lovely.
