Why this must be read:

This is a hilarious take on Olive's interview at the Pie Hole, featuring Ned as his nervous, socially phobic, pre-character development self, and Olive plowing right through him. It's easy to see their later relationship starting to take shape. Also, this is one of the few fics that really captures the speed and, well, quantity of the show's dialogue without getting lost in it.

Yet against all odds, interviewee number four was inexorably approaching, looking very much like she might be prone to hugging. Ned was not, on the whole, a fan of hugs. They involved things like touching, and not knowing when to let go, and the up close and personal smell of another person's neck, which was rarely, if ever, pleasant. It was possible that, if Ned had extremely close friends, he might hug them. Perhaps pat them on the back. Smile at them in a friendly fashion.

Hugs from total strangers were not only utterly terrifying, but also to be avoided at all costs.

"The Pie Hole, that's a very clever name, I mean because presumably this shop provides pie, pie to go in your hole, only doesn't that sound a little crude? I think it might sound a little crude, not that I'm implying that your shop is crude, at all, it's an adorable little place, or do you not like being called adorable? Well I mean not that I'm calling you adorable -- although you are! Except not in a creepy way, just in a 'gosh I passed a cute stranger on the street today' kind of way."

Well, Ned thought, dazed. There certainly hadn't been any hugging. Perhaps this woman was the type to sneak a hug in halfway through a sentence.
